I DONT "really know" the steps other than what has worked for me and a couple of others. I do know that one person with an X card could not get it working so far with my and others help even tho the X is supported by the 8. I would suggest that you use a backup program like Acronis True Image to image your Can't speak for others.
There are some others and they don't all agree. But this is the one I used most lately. I follow the steps from the link above. Not as easy as installing drivers in Windows or Apple systems.
I like the challenge though. Still 3D isn't supported with the latest drivers X. The latets drivers on ATI website doesn't supports X. There are some packages requirements you system should have before installing the ATI drivers and some of them are already installed.
If you try to install a package and you don't find it try adding installation sources to YaST, specially if you did not have an internet connection when installing SUSE Yes it does and your X is suported.
